Bob & Rita Hecocks have created a once in a life time Guided Self-Pilot Africa Safari thru African Aero Safaris. If you have dreamed of an African Safari - This is the trip for you.
SELF-PILOTED SAFARI IN LIGHT SINGLE AIRPLANES TO VICTORIA FALLS AND LUXURY GAME LODGES IN SOUTH AFRICA, BOTSWANA and ZAMBIA!

This Rhino African Safari bush flying is preceded by three days near our base airfield, staying in a comfortable local hotel. Your time is spent by the Pilot dealing with the validation requirements (briefings, familiarisation, ATC, MET, airlaw, planning, checkride, SA CAA documentation) and by the rest of the folk in the group doing local optional excursions to interesting places in the area. After your arrival in South Africa and validation activities that qualifies you to pilot a locally registered airplane, we take off on our real Bush and African flying adventure………..here is our RHINO itinerary that interfaces you with all aspects of Africa - the flying, the Big Game and Wild Animals, the peoples, cultures, traditions and their art, mountains, deserts, savannah grasslands, montane vegetation, rivers and deltas
We are close to all the pricing options for this proposed trip.
The body of the trip, up to when we exit South Africa for Mozambique, is nailed down (only one place does Dave have to still see but he is not too concerned about it - Sutherland en route to Cape Town, home to the largest telescopes in the continent and NASA partner – we are hoping we can get to see the astronomical setup there; Dave’s brother Peter gave it the thumbs up and he knows our standards).
Then we have the final two stages of the trip, being Mozambique and the option of Mashatu in the Tuli Game reserve which we are currently working on.
Here are the Assumptions.
1) Aircraft will be C172’s or PA28’s or similar.
2) Two persons per airplane, with a pilot being one of them.
3) Breakfasts and dinners throughout included, except when in cities and towns - breakfast only; and full board for 10 overnights
4) Currently negotiated best-pricing across the board for accomms, activities, meals, transfers, airplane rental
5) using a lower priced location in Mozambique than previously, which I plan to still view but am confident it will deliver on what we want as I am familiar with the operator and am happy about his product.
6) All pilots validating (Because of the new rules which make validation simpler than in the past, Granucci, Spirn, Johnson and Hecocks will not have to validate but will need a check ride, Hackler and Blythe will start from scratch)
The SA Rand has strengthened a full 20% against the US$ since November 2008, so even though we are pressuring suppliers to let us have better than trade pricings, the pricing options are still not as attractive as we would have wanted.
Things that will affect the pricing up or down are
a) The rate of currency exchange
b) Different airplanes and/or lodgings than we have currently costed in
Factors that will LOWER the pricing
Better exchange rate
Better deals with suppliers once we have deposits in the bank.
Those pilots not validating will have a discount
PBS trip commencing Friday May 3, 2010; June 2009 pricing per couple in US$ in a C172/PA28 or similar

We currently have 6planes interested. We can accommodate 7 planes.
Routes attached with and without Mashatu. We need to decide if we want to go to Mashatu or not. We don’t all have to go there if someone who can’t spare the time or money.
Please let me know what you think.
